Tom Bucina was born and raised on the Southwest Side of Chicago. After high school graduation Tom began working as a draftsman. He was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1969 and served until 1971
After returning from a tour of duty in Vietnam, Tom became a Chicago Police Officer. He began college while on the Police Department and studied Business Administration. He also obtained his Illinois Real Estate license in 1975 and became a Broker in 1976.
Tom decided to make real estate his career and resigned from the Police Department to become the managing partner in a firm affiliated with Century 21. His firm grew to 2 offices in Chicago’s Southwest suburbs of Oak Lawn and Palos Hills until merging with another to become part of a 5 office firm.
In the early 1980’s Tom became heavily involved with the then 3,700+ member Southwest Suburban Association of Realtors first as a member of and then the Chairman of the MLS Committee. He was elected to the Board of Directors and subsequently elected as Treasurer, Secretary, Vice-President, President-Elect then President. He became Chairman of the Board of Directors as the immediate Past-President. Tom was also voted the 1991 Realtor of the Year of the Southwest Suburban Association of Realtors.
Tom sold his interest in his real estate firm and joined Coldwell Banker as Branch Manager of the Orland Park office and greatly improved the production and training level of the Associates while there. Tom then moved on to become involved with the technology training for Coldwell Banker Northern Illinois.
After leaving Coldwell Banker Tom decided to become responsible only for himself and joined a local firm, George Vlasis Realtors in Oak Lawn Illinois, where he continues to be a licensed Broker Associate and a member of the Chicago Association of Realtors. Tom is taking advantage of the Florida – Illinois Mutual Recognition Licensing Agreement and has become part of the Royal Shell Real Estate Team in Southwest Florida.
