How to Celebrate Christmas on the Beach for Locals

VISIT FLORIDA data shows that in the third Quarter of 2024, tourism in Florida continued to break visitation records, and there is no chance it’s stopping anytime soon. Hundreds of people are expected to visit the Sunshine State for the holidays. Still, one of the best things about already living here is being able to walk out your front door and be on the beach, ready to experience the fantastic weather, breathtaking sunsets, and tropical holiday spirit without having to pack or get on a plane.

When we think of Christmas, we tend to picture a white Christmas with fluffy and glistening snow on the ground and snow-kissed trees. However, a sunny, tropical Florida Christmas can also feel very special. Whether you live on or near the beach or want to try something new this year and plan a beach staycation for Christmas, here are some ways to celebrate Christmas on the beach.

How to Celebrate Christmas on the Beach by Adding a Nautical Touch to Your Decorations

To celebrate Christmas on the beach, you can channel a nautical theme into your décor and fill your home with beloved Florida beachy holiday charm.

  • Consider beach and nautical-themed ornaments such as starfish, mermaids, and seashells.
  • Use a palm tree as a Christmas tree by decorating a faux tree in your home. Also, light up any palm trees in your yard for the full Florida Christmas experience.
  • Seek out beach-themed décor like Santa on the beach figurines and festive tropical Christmas knickknacks
  • Go shelling and save your haul. Paint the shells holiday colors, add some glitter, and dress them up for the holidays. The kiddos will love this activity.
  • Try a starfish tree topper, or pineapple string lights, create a wreath with beachy Florida elements like sand dollars and starfish, and don’t be shy — put out your best shell collection for all to see

How to Plan a Christmas Staycation in a Southwest Florida Beach Home

Have you always thought about a staycation on the beach during the holidays? There is no better time for a beach staycation for families than Christmas. Wake up and build sandcastles with festive decorations, enjoy a Christmas feast with tropical flavors at home, or seek out one of the open restaurants in the area, and celebrate Christmas with a good beach swim, snorkeling session, or sipping on Christmas-themed beverages for the adults. Don’t forget the Santa-themed towels and bathing suits.

Or maybe you’ve been considering purchasing a second home on or near the beach. The exciting thing about real estate is the many possibilities it offers. A rental property is a good investment and one to consider if you won’t be using the home as your primary residence. The second stream of income you’d receive can also be appealing.

Royal Shell can help you with some Christmas staycation ideas and how to celebrate Christmas on the beach by helping you find a vacation home perfect for the holidays and checking off all the boxes on your wish list. We have luxury homes with dreamy beach views, enough space for all the kids to have their own rooms, homes with pools and beautiful outdoor spaces, and everything in between.

Try Something New: Take Family Christmas Photos on the Beach

Try Something New: Take Family Christmas Photos on the Beach

For many families, a time-honored Christmas tradition is taking family Christmas photos. Some people use the same location and outfits each year, and some like mixing it up. There is no wrong way to take a family Christmas photo.

For many in Southwest Florida, when they think of how to celebrate Christmas on the beach, the annual trip to the beach means taking a treasured family photo on the beach, with a sunrise or sunset in the background.

There is always the option of hiring a photographer. If you’re more of a DIY type of person, here are some tips for taking a Christmas family photo yourself:

  • If using a phone, use the latest model with the best camera
  • Take the photo with the camera on the back of the phone because it has a higher resolution
  • Take both horizontal and vertical photos
  • Use a selfie stick or tripod
  • Utilize the timer, and don’t be afraid to take multiple shots

Regarding what to wear, that’s one of the best parts. Here are some ideas:

  • The traditional white shirt with jeans and a Santa hat
  • Matching Christmas sweaters
  • Sticking to the same color scheme
  • Whatever makes you look and feel your best

Try a Christmas Meal on the Beach

Even if it’s something small or a simple picnic, a Christmas Eve meal on the beach can be a great way to celebrate the holiday. Bring some chocolates and have dessert with the sunset in the background, pack picnic-style food and all of the essentials, and head down to the shore, or bring some snacks that travel well and take in the water and waves while the children go for a swim.
